Manchester United are exploring a move for Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, reports Sky Sports Deutschland's Florian Plettenberg.
Internal discussions are reported to have taken place between the Old Trafford hierarchy, who have placed the 24-year-old on their shortlist for this summer.
It is said that they are currently "gathering more information" about De Ligt, and it is expected that a move for him could be possible if they make an offer in the region of €50 million.
De Ligt was a key player for manager Thomas Tuchel last season, making 30 appearances across all competitions for the Bundesliga side, and he could be seen as an alternative to Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
While personal terms were recently believed to have been agreed with the 21-year-old, Team Talk reports that the Red Devils are still some distance off reaching an agreement with the Toffees over a transfer fee.
