Phil Foden voted Premier League player of the season over Arsenal and Chelsea stars

Manchester City's Phil Foden has been unveiled as the Premier League Player of the Season after another phenomenal campaign for Pep Guardiola's title-chasing side

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has been named as the 2023/24 Premier League Player of the Season.

The 23-year-old has been recognised with the reputable award following another impressive campaign in which he has played an integral role in City's bid for a unprecedented fourth successive title. In fact, Foden has plunged a career-best 17 goals and added eight assists in 34 top-flight appearances this season.

He has beaten City team-mate Erling Haaland, Arsenal duo Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice, Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk to the award after a public vote and Premier League panel.

"To win this award is an achievement that I am extremely proud of," said Foden. "The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons for their clubs."

This is the second accolade in a matter of days that Foden has collected, having won the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year on Thursday. The England international fought off competition to beat Rice and Rodri to win 42 percent of the vote by the FWA, which represents almost 900 football journalists.

Foden can win his sixth Premier League title this weekend. City sit top of the table going into the final day of the season and face West Ham needing to match or better Arsenal's result against Everton to claim the trophy. This is followed up by the FA Cup final against Manchester United next Saturday.

Phil Foden has 24 goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season

Speaking on Thursday, Foden said: "It would mean everything to me after finishing last season and what we achieved then. We're still in two competitions, we've got two finals left and we'll give everything to try and achieve success and try and do the Premier League four times which has never been done before.

"It would mean a lot to us. It's history and I don't think I can ever see it being done again. It's something the team knows, the team understands and we're looking forward to trying to get it done."

In all competitions, he has scored 25 times and grabbed 11 assists in 51 matches. That includes another five goals in the Champions League, with Foden scoring in the quarter-final first-leg against Real Madrid.

Foden is set to be named in the England squad for Euro 2024 this summer. The Stockport-born playmaker has made 33 appearances for his nation, scoring four goals. He has started in each of their last five matches, including both friendlies against Brazil and Belgium in March.
